NORTHBOUND – INTO THE WHITE – After Landing
Linoprint – 100 x 150 cm – 2016
NORTHBOUND
In spring 2016, I had the opportunity to take part in an expedition cruise to Spitsbergen. We boarded in Bodø in Norwegian Nordland, from where we finally reached the pack ice limit on day 6 in the Arctic Ocean via Lofoten and Bear Island. When it cleared early the next morning, Svalbard was in sight and I finally lost my heart to the immense size and clarity of the Arctic.
Back home, I made linocuts and printed them on large-format cardboard to capture the vastness of the landscape. There are two series, INTO THE WHITE on white cardboard and INTO THE DUSK on grey cardboard. Both tell in reduced form of the tininess of man in the face of the Arctic archipelago.
